Offset to judge streetwear competition; Mike Epps, Wanda Skyes to star in ‘The Upshaws’; Starz launches docu-series ‘Confronting a Serial Killer’

Migos frontman Offset is taking a seat at the judges table for a new competition series centered on streetwear.

HBO Max has announced a series order for The Hype, a new show where 10 streetwear professionals will compete in challenges based on creating original designs, and the business of fashion.

Also serving as a co-producer, Offset will judge alongside Beth Birkett, creative director and founder of Bephies Beauty Supply, and Marni Senofonte, a costume designer who’s worked with the likes of Beyoncé and Lauryn Hill.

“I feel like the show HYPE was created with creatives like myself in mind,” said Offset. “I’m happy to not only be a co-signer for the show but a producer. We are giving opportunities to the culture.”

Netflix, meanwhile, is launching a new series that stars funnyman Mike Epps and Emmy winner Wanda Sykes.

Titled The Upshaws, the ten-episode comedy follows Epps as Bennie Upshaw, the head of a working-class family in Indianapolis who, in addition to dealing with his unpredictable family, must now “tolerate his sardonic sister-in-law,” played by Wanda Sykes.

Co-executive-produced by Epps and Sykes, The Upshaws also stars Kim Fields, Page Kennedy, Diamond Lyons, Jermelle Simon and Gabrielle Dennis. It launches on May 12.

Finally, Starz has announced their new docu-series, Confronting a Serial Killer, that will explore racial and gender bias in the criminal justice system.

Directed by Emmy winning filmmaker Joe Berlinger, the five-episode series tells the story of how New York Times best-selling author Jillian Lauren was able to get the most prolific serial killer in American history, Samuel Little, to not only reveal his crimes, but his victims.

Confronting a Serial Killer premieres Sunday, April 18 on at 9PM ET.
