Music legend Elton John joined Teyana Taylor in the self-directed music video for “Lose Each Other.”
The stunning visual opens with Elton on the grand piano, later joined by Teyana belting out the “special record” from her latest project, The Album.
In a press release, Taylor said she wanted the visual to feel “just as big” as the song, which is why she wanted Elton in the Aunties Production video.
“Not that I thought it could really happen, but just putting it out there in the universe lol,” she explained. “So as we were working through treatment ideas and solidifying logistics for the video, an international phone number calls me…. and for a second I almost didn’t answer, but my intuition spoke, I answered.”
Teyana said she “freaked out” after hearing, “Hello darling, it’s Elton. I’d LOVE to do your video!”
With Elton in London and Teyana in Atlanta, the two were unable to physically shoot the “Lose Each Other” video together due to COVID-19.
After the video’s release, Teyana and Elton hopped on Instagram Live, where Elton praised Teyana for being one of the few artists “making fantastic music” today.
“Your music and artistry speaks for itself and I will be there over a million times to support you,” says John, which had Teyana crying tears of joy. “You’re doing the best stuff and telling it like it is.”
The “Lose Each Other” visual also caters to Teyana’s bold imagery and high fashion aesthetic, paired with an exquisitely choreographed dance routine to help the audience “understand how love’s hardships can also be beautiful.”
